During his last years, Dr. Allama Iqbal wanted to to on Hajj. However, his health condition began to deteriorate rapidly. He started his last book “Armaghaan-e-Hijaz” (The Gift from Hijaaz (Arabia)), a pilgrim’s humble tribute to God and Prophet S.A.W.
The book had both poems in Persian and Urdu and had great poems such as Iblees ki Majlis-e-Shura (Grand Conference of Iblees) and Hazrat-e-Insaan.
Allama never could made to Makkah and died in 1938 after his prolonged illness. This book was published posthumously.
When I did my Umra this summer, I took it to read during my journey. It was a poignant journey and I also performed my second umra for sawwab of Allama Iqbal with this book in my hand as I performed tawaaf around Kaaba. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
