Arif Lohar’s Jugni: The flagship of Punjabi Folk music
Arif Lohar is a Pakistani Punjabi folk singer who was born on 18 April 1966 in Lalamusa, Punjab. He is the son of Alam Lohar, a prominent folk singer. He became popular in Pakistan and India after his song “Jugni (Original Version)” with Nooran Lal in 2006. He usually sings with a native musical instrument called a ‘Chimta’.
Arif Lohar has performed in more than 50 foreign tours around the world during the last 20 years. He has recorded more than 150 albums and 3,000 songs, mostly in Punjabi.
Arif Lohar has won several awards, such as the Pride of Performance Award by the Government of Pakistan and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Brit Asia TV Music Awards in 2018.
Some of his famous albums are “21st Century Jugni”, “Treasures Folk, Vol. 4″2, “The Spirit of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, and “Greatest Hits of Arif Lohar”. Some of his famous songs are Jugni, Akhian, Dilwala Dukhra, Mirza, and Tika Mathe Utte Sajda Ay.
Jugni is a Punjabi folk song that Arif Lohar has performed in various versions and collaborations. The most popular version is “Alif Allah, Jugni” which he sang with Meesha Shafi in Coke Studio Season 3, which has more than 80 Million views.
Another famous version is “Jugni Ji” which he performed with his ensemble at Asia Society in New York in 2012. The song has over 30 million views on YouTube. It is a lively and energetic rendition of the folk song with Arif Lohar playing his signature chimta instrument.
A third version is “Jugni” which he recorded with music producer Mukhtar Sahota for his album “21st Century Jugni”. The song has over 4 million views on YouTube. It is a modern and upbeat adaptation of the folk song with electronic beats and guitar riffs.
