Professor Annemarie Schimmel and Allama Iqbal: Letter by Wazir Dayers
Dear Brother W,
Thank you very much for the link to the valuable online library with pdf ebooks of Allama Iqbal, I look forward to exploring it!
When you say that Allama Iqbal, Hazrat Mawlana Rumi (R.A.) and Hazrat Fariduddin Attar (R.A.) and their main works are in the same league, I fully agree with you. Allama Iqbal was indeed a protégé of Mawlana Rumi, I fully recognise this to be true. And there’s no doubt in my mind and my heart that both Hazrat Mawlana Rumi (R.A.) and Allama Muhammad Iqbal are Oceans of Wisdom.
Professor Annemarie Schimmel was a professor of Islamic Studies and Sufism at Harvard University from 1967 to 1992, where she was a reader in poetry, mysticism, philosophy, social issues and much more. It’s no wonder this exceptional scholar was and still is so venerated. Pakistan named an avenue after her in Lahore (see the picture attached to this reply). I too hold her in high esteem.
I think I wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that she was the greatest orientalist scholar of the 20th century, together with Professor R.A. Nicholson, this other giant of orientalist science.
Her book Mystical Dimensions of Islam Annemarie Schimmel manifests this statement.
The Epitaph on Grave of Prof Annemarie Schimmel states a quote by Hazrat Ali, ‘We are in state of sleep. When we die, we wake up’. May her soul rest in peace. Ameen.
Wholeheartedly yours,
Wazir
