The Sufi and the Tale of Halaku

The Sufi and the Tale of Halaku

A Sufi teacher was approached by people from various faiths who said:

“Accept us as your disciples. We believe our faith hold no remaining truth, and your teachings are the true path.”

The Sufi replied:

“Have you heard of Halaku Khan’s invasion of Syria? Let me tell you. The Vizier Ahmad of Baghdad’s Caliph invited the Mongols to invade. After Halaku conquered Baghdad, Ahmad went to claim his reward.

Halaku asked, ‘Do you expect a reward after betraying your own master?’ He then ordered Ahmad to be hanged.”

The Sufi added, “Before seeking a new path, ask yourself if you’ve truly followed your own teacher. If satisfied, then come and ask to become disciples.”
